Free evening childcare

There is a $ 25 Gift Certificate to a restaurant of your choice included free childcare if your referral to my daycare results in another signed full time Contract. It will be handed over to you when the new child has been here for a month and the daycare relationship seems to be working out fine.

I offer Parents' Night Out without the kids if you as married want to celebrate your Wedding Anniversary - or if you as single want to celebrate your Birthday with a friend.

For Parent Christmas Shopping I will watch all the children for free on a planned evening before Christmas every year. We will have a Norwegian Christmas Party with the kids where we open gifts, hold hands while walking around the Christmas tree singing carols, etc. We will have Norwegian goodies and candies and our so called Risgrøt which is similar to Rice Pudding. Whoever gets the almond hid in the pudding gets a special prize to take home.

Picture Gallery

I will post pictures of the children regularly on a web page called www.snapfish.com. There you can go in and order the pictures of your likings to be sent directly to your address.

Newsletters

I will ask for parents e-mail addresses and e-mail my newsletters and other important information, and sometimes how our day was with a few pictures attached. The majority of my parents also like the possibility of addressing issues via e-mails. You are very welcome to do that and also of course communicate other ways. I give all my parents a business card for their wallet for easy access on how to reach me in different ways at all times.

Other

Parents are always welcome to participate in any event like birthday parties etc. taking place at the facility. Voluntary work or suggestions to make our home or back yard an even more fun place to play is highly appreciated as well, but not a must. Also, if you want to donate stuff for fundraising garage sales, you are welcome to do that. Any ideas are appreciated very much.

Kid's weekend video rental

Children that have attended my childcare for at least a full month will have access to the video lending library. We have a great selection and anybody can pick 1 video to rent for free for the weekend.

Mariann Asbury and Twinkling Stars Daycare,

It is with sorrow that I have to submit this termination notice. I have been very pleased with the quality of care you have provided for my children over the past year both on a professional and personal level. They love you dearly and I know you show a great fondness for them as well.

Please accept my sincerest apologies, and I thank you dearly for your meaningful contribution to my children's emotional, social and personal development. I wish you great success with your daycare.

I would be happy to provide you with a glowing reference for potential daycare parents at any time, and hope that you will take me up on that. Again, I offer my deepest apologies for this unexpected departure.

Reference for Mariann Asbury, Twinkling Stars Daycare

We are very blessed to have Mariann take care of our little boy. He is the most precious thing in the world to us, and we would never entrust his care to anyone we didn't trust fully. I simply would not be able to return to work part-time and would have to resort to having my husband work evening and weekend jobs in addition to his current job to replace my income, if Mariann wasn't able to accept my child in her daycare. Knowing today's world, how can one trust a stranger, no matter how decent and caring they appear, with one's precious child.

My child has been at TS Daycare since late March 2002. He loves Mariann (he might be thinking she is his other mommy), but Mariann carefully and consistently supports his natural love and preference for his mommy (me). He is very happy to be at TS - even though he cannot talk yet, he smiles and laughs when I drop him off and when I pick him up. He happily babbles into the phone when I call in during the day (because I miss him). Mariann is always willing to put him on for me (provided she doesn't have urgent needs with other children). Then she just calls me back when it is more convenient.

When I pick up my child, sometimes I stick around for a time and see what fun and stimulating activities Mariann has for the kids, and how she holds and tenderly cares for the little ones. She exercises good judgement with regards to discipline, and takes reasonable precautions for the safety and well being for all children.

I have known Mariann for over 7 years (we met in Norway on my trip there during the summer of 1995). We are members of the same church, and she is a personal friend. Knowing her love and care for people in general and especially children, and her views on child neglect and abuse, I have no qualms about having her take care of David. I trust that David is just as safe as he is when I am there.

Mariann is always willing to follow the instructions and suggestions I have for her regarding feeding, naps, and activities for David. I get a good report at the end of the day (and in the middle of the day, if I wish). In short, I would not consider taking my child anywhere else, unless Mariann was actually not able to keep him in his daycare for some reason.

10 Commandments for parents of children in a home child care program

I - HONOR THY CAREGIVER'S SCHEDULE

Yes, there is life after care giving. Caregivers have appointments to keep, dinner dates and shopping to do. Resist that temptation to stop for groceries and arrive on time to pick up your children. Both child and caregiver will appreciate your punctuality and, if one day you are unavoidably delayed, your caregiver will understand. Your caregiver also likes a predictable arrival time. It simplifies planning her daily schedule. Always call when something in the regular schedule changes.

II - THOU SHALT NOT DELAY PAYMENT OF PRE-ARRANGED FEES

Caregivers base their budgets on predictable cash flow just as you do.

III - THOU SHALT NOT KEEP THY CONCERNS TO THYSELF

If something is bothering you, talk to your caregiver. Then work together to provide a solution. Likewise, do not hesitate to tell her when you are pleased with her efforts. Communication is essential.

IV - THOU SHALT NEGOTIATE AND RESPECT A REASONABLE CONTRACT

Having requirements in writing clarifies expectations for both parents and caregiver.

V - THOU SHALT NOT KNOWINGLY EXPOSE CAREGIVERS AND CHILDREN TO INFECTIOUS DISEASES

Yes, we know bosses aren't always sympathetic when you need to stay home with a sick child. A substitute caregiver could help you with this issue. Remember, the guidelines on illness that you are asked to follow also protect your child from exposure. Even if not infectious, a child should be well enough to take part in program activities. Would you want your child to miss a special event because one of the other children was not well enough to participate?

VI - THOU SHALT BRING THY OFFSPRING IN A WELL RESTED STATE

All children have bad nights occasionally. But a regular bedtime and a good night's sleep means the child will be cheerful, energetic and ready to fully participate in an active program. We want him/her to have fun.

VII - THOU SHALT KNOW THYSELF AND THY NEEDS

Before you start interviewing prospective caregivers, think about what is important to you with regard to environment, location, schedules, child guidance etc. Then choose a program that meets your requirements. Don't expect a caregiver to change her views or program to match yours. (except minor exceptions)

VIII - THOU SHALT TAKE NECESSARY TIME TO EASE CHILD INTO AND OUT OF ANY CHILD CARE ARRANGEMENT

A schedule of visits let you, your child and caregiver become familiar and at ease with each other. Leave taking also requires preparation.

IX - THOU SHALT SAY GOOD-BYE TO YOUR CHILD IN A LOVING MANNER - AND LEAVE

Some good-byes are not easy, but if you act calmly and confidently, your child will accept those feelings and settle easily after you have gone. If you keep returning for one more hug, you may transmit feelings of uncertainty and your child will respond accordingly

X - THOU SHALT RESPECT YOUR CAREGIVER'S PROFESSIONALISM

A caregiver who offers nurturing, safe, stimulating environment with well- planned activities is not "just a babysitter". She is contributing to the optimum development of your child and deserves to be treated with respect.
